About Bad Honnef

A Rhine spa town below the Drachenfels

Bad Honnef transformed from a wine-growing town into a spa town after the discovery of the Drachenquelle mineral spring in 1897. It lies on the slopes of the Drachenfels, part of the Siebengebirge, in North Rhine-Westphalia on the border of Rhineland-Palatinate. A popular bathing resort in the 19th century, it served as a summer residence for European monarchs and artists.

With around 25,800 inhabitants and a riverside setting between Bonn and Königswinter, Bad Honnef has long been nicknamed the “Rhenish Nice”. Konrad Adenauer, Germany's first postwar chancellor, lived in the Rhöndorf district. Using its historic charm and powerful destination marketing, Bad Honnef could once again shine as a fashionable international spa.
